What is Verace and who is it for?

Verace is a B2B SaaS platform for the traceability of Italian products. It is aimed at food and manufacturing producers who want to transparently communicate their supply chain, certifications and product information via QR code — directly to the end consumer.

Question 2

How does the Verace QR code work?

Accepted Answer

Every product registered on Verace receives a unique QR code with a cryptographically signed security code. Print it on the label or packaging: when the consumer scans it with their smartphone, they immediately access the full product page — supply chain, certifications, nutrition, ingredients and total scans.

What does the consumer see when they scan the QR?

Accepted Answer

The consumer sees a mobile-first page with: product name and brand, supply chain steps with suppliers and locations, PDO/PGI/TSG/Organic certifications, nutrition table and ingredients, Verace Quality Score (a 0–100 score based on nutrition and certifications), total scan counter and, if enabled, the Digital Product Passport (DPP) compliant with EU regulation.

How long does it take to get started?

Accepted Answer

Initial setup takes about 10 minutes: registration, company creation and first product. The QR code can be generated right away. You can add supply chain steps, certifications and media incrementally. No technical integration is required — everything is managed from the web dashboard.

Can I manage multiple products at the same time?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The dashboard lets you manage all products from a single interface, with filterable lists, search and media moderation status. The maximum number of products depends on the plan: 5 (Seed), 25 (Grow), 100 (Brand) or unlimited (Pro).

Question 6

Why should a producer use Verace if they already have a company website?

Accepted Answer

Verace does not replace the producer's website, it complements it with a layer the website alone cannot offer: verified structured data in European standard formats, readable by search engines and artificial intelligences. The official website remains the producer's brand channel, and from the Verace page you can link directly to it, generating mutual traffic. The producer keeps their own digital identity and adds a technical infrastructure that would require significant investment if built independently.

Can the Verace page host the producer's multimedia content?

Yes. Every producer can upload product photos, production videos, company history and team presentation to their Verace page. The page thus becomes a real brand page, updatable in real time, where the producer tells their own story directly to the consumer without intermediaries. The carousel, video and storage limits vary based on the subscribed plan.

What is the Digital Product Passport (DPP)?

The Digital Product Passport is a set of standardized information that accompanies a product throughout its entire life cycle — from production to disposal. It is required by the EU Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) and will become mandatory progressively from 2025–2030 for various product categories.

Is Verace already compliant with the European DPP Regulation?

Accepted Answer

Verace implements the Digital Product Passport (DPP) compliant with the ESPR structure, using Schema.org structured data and a unique identifier per product. It includes sustainability declarations, materials, carbon footprint, certifications and recycling information. The ESPR technical specifications are still evolving: we update the data model in step with the delegated acts.

What is the difference between a PDO/PGI certification and an Organic one?

PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) and PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) protect products whose link with a specific territory is decisive for quality or reputation — e.g. Parmigiano Reggiano PDO or Prosciutto di Parma PDO. Organic certification instead attests production methods free of synthetic pesticides and GMOs. On Verace you can register both, and the system verifies GIs via the official European register eAmbrosia.

Question 11

Does Verace help with EU Regulation 2022/2065 (Digital Services Act)?

Accepted Answer

The Digital Services Act regulates online platforms and digital intermediaries. Verace is not a third-party content hosting platform in the DSA sense, but it supports producers' compliance with the transparency principle: every advertising claim on the product page is verifiable through certification documents uploaded and approved by Verace moderators.

Question 12

Can I use Verace for Regulation 1169/2011 on food labelling?

Accepted Answer

Yes, partially. Verace collects and displays the nutritional data and allergens required by Reg. 1169/2011 in the digital product page. However, the web page does not replace the mandatory physical label on the packaging: it is an addition that adds informational depth beyond the QR code. For the physical label we recommend consulting a labelling specialist.

How are QR codes protected against counterfeiting?

Accepted Answer

Every Verace QR code includes an HMAC-SHA256 cryptographic signature tied to the product's unique identifier. When the consumer scans the QR, the system verifies the signature server-side with a timing-safe comparison (protected against timing-leak attacks). A forged or altered QR shows a red "QR Not Recognized" banner. For premium products, Verace Authentic is available: NTAG 424 DNA NFC chips with hardware-level AES-128 verification, an anti-replay counter included in the signature and automatic detection of impossible geographic scans.

Question 14

Does Verace support NFC chips in addition to QR codes?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The Brand and Pro plans include support for NTAG 424 DNA NFC chips with AES-128 encryption and authentication via GCP KMS. NFC chips are ideal for high-end products (jewellery, luxury clothing, fine wines) where a premium verification experience without visual scanning is desired.

Question 15

How does multimedia content moderation work?

Accepted Answer

Every uploaded image and video automatically passes through Google Vision AI. Content with violence or explicit material above threshold is rejected automatically. Borderline content goes to a manual review queue handled by Verace moderators. Videos are always manually reviewed before publication.

Question 16

Can I integrate Verace with my ERP or management software?

Accepted Answer

The public API v1 is on the roadmap (S16) and will be available on request. In the meantime, bulk import of products is possible through the dashboard. If you have urgent integration needs, contact us: we evaluate custom integrations on a project basis.

Question 17

Is scan data available in real time?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The analytics dashboard shows scans in real time with a breakdown by device, language and geographic area (Grow+). CSV export of raw data is available (Grow+) along with the positioning widget within the category versus similar products (all plans).

Question 18

How does Verace QR anti-counterfeiting work?

Accepted Answer

Every unique QR is "claimed" on the customer's first scan. The system then observes all subsequent scans to identify suspicious patterns (labels circulating in different places, anomalous scans, etc.). See /come-funziona for details.

Question 19

What happens if someone photocopies my QR?

Accepted Answer

The system monitors the scan patterns of each individual piece. If it detects patterns consistent with duplication (labels in multiple countries/regions, too many different devices, etc.), it alerts you via email and in the dashboard. Only you see the alert: the fraudster doesn't know they've been intercepted.

Does the consumer see if the QR is counterfeit?

Accepted Answer

No, it's a strategic choice. If the consumer saw an alert, the fraudster would find out and change their strategy. By keeping them unaware, you collect more data before taking legal action.

Question 21

Can I use anti-counterfeiting without the Verace mobile app?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the current version works entirely via the web — the customer scans with any camera or app. The upcoming mobile app (late 2026) will add more reliable GPS and other advanced protections, but it is not required for basic monitoring.

Is Verace optimized to be read by artificial intelligences?

Accepted Answer

Yes, Verace is built to be AI-ready by design. All product data is structured according to international standards (Schema.org, GS1 Digital Link, CIRPASS2 format for the DPP), exposed via public APIs, and formatted so that conversational AIs can read, cite and use it as a source. When a consumer asks an AI assistant about a product, Verace pages are among the most easily interpretable sources compared to a traditional company website.

How does AI generation of product images and videos work?

The Brand and Pro plans include AI Studio, the integrated tool that lets you generate photographic images and promotional videos of the product through artificial intelligence. The producer uploads a product photo and a description, and obtains professional content in minutes, without the need for photo shoots or communication agencies. The generated images and videos belong to the producer, with no usage restrictions.

Does Verace also work for the non-food manufacturing sector?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Verace supports two modes: "food" for agri-food products (with nutrition, allergens and food certifications) and "manufacturing" for manufactured products (with materials, production standards and DPP). The public page automatically adapts to the product type.

Question 25

Can I use Verace for wines and spirits?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. Wines and spirits fall into the food category with PDO/DOC/DOCG certifications verifiable via eAmbrosia. You can enter vintage, grape variety, production area and winemaking method in the supply chain steps. The QR code on the back of the bottle is the most common use case among our producers.

Is it suitable for dairies and cured-meat producers with PDO/PGI?

Accepted Answer

Yes, it is one of the main use cases. Automatic verification of GI certifications (PDO/PGI/TSG) via the European register eAmbrosia updates the badge status on the product daily. Protection consortia can request a multi-producer account: contact us for details.

Question 27

Does it work for artisanal products in small batches?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The Seed plan at €29/month is designed precisely for small producers with 5 products and 1,000 scans/month. There are no per-scan costs or annual contract minimums: you pay month by month and can cancel at any time.

Can I track individual pieces (serial numbers) in addition to lots?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Verace's anti-counterfeiting feature supports both "lot" mode (one QR for a production lot) and "serial" mode (a unique QR for each individual piece). Serial mode is ideal for luxury products, electronics or any item where individual traceability matters.

How does brand rotation on the Verace homepage work?

The hero homepage shows one brand at a time in a continuous loop, for 3 minutes each. The order is generated by a weighted rotation system: each brand enters a pool of slots proportional to its weight. Higher plans have greater weight and therefore appear more frequently. Every 50 slots there is a safety round-robin that guarantees all brands appear at least periodically, even with many active brands.

How many times does my brand appear in a week?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the total number of active brands in the system and your plan. The formula is transparent: your plan's weight (Seed 1, Starter 1.5, Grow 2, Brand 3, Pro 5) divided by the sum of all active weights, multiplied by 3,360 weekly slots. Example with 100 active brands at average distribution: Seed ~23, Starter ~35, Grow ~47, Brand ~70, Pro ~117 appearances per week. You'll find the live figure in your analytics dashboard.

Question 31

What does the on-demand boost concretely offer?

Accepted Answer

The boost temporarily multiplies your weight in the rotation: ×3 for 4 hours (€9), ×2 for 24 hours (€19), ×1.5 for 7 days (€79). Example: a Seed brand during a 24h boost temporarily sees its weight go from 1 to 2 — so it appears at the same frequency as a Grow plan for those 24 hours. The boost is on-demand, with no subscription commitment.

What does "appearances ≥3 seconds" mean in my dashboard?

Accepted Answer

These are the appearances in which the visitor stayed on the home page for at least 3 seconds while your brand was visible. We count them separately because many sessions last less (bots, background tabs, bounces). We show both numbers for transparency: the total as a measure of "presence in rotation", the effective ≥3sec as a more realistic measure of exposure to the visitor. Real engagement (clicks, QR scans) depends on the quality of your content, not on us.

Are the appearance numbers guaranteed?

Accepted Answer

The numbers are statistically expected, not guaranteed precisely on a single day. The system uses pseudo-random shuffle + safety round-robin to ensure fairness over the medium term (week/month). In case of excessive degradation of your share (e.g. a prolonged period of under-performance) you can report it via support — we are transparent and review case by case.

Where is my product data stored?

Data is stored on Supabase infrastructure (PostgreSQL) with datacenters in EU-West (Dublin, Ireland) and Frankfurt, Germany. Media files are stored on Supabase Storage with private buckets for unpublished media. No data is shared with third parties for advertising purposes.

Question 35

Are the consumers who scan the QR tracked?

Accepted Answer

The system records aggregated and anonymous data for scans: timestamp, device type, browser language, country (from IP, not GPS). We do not collect personal data of the consumers who scan — no registration required, no profiling cookies. The consumer can save favourite products through an optional profile created with a magic link (no password).

Question 36

How can I protect my account from unauthorized access?

Accepted Answer

Verace supports two-factor authentication (2FA) via TOTP apps (Google Authenticator, Authy). You can enable it from Dashboard → Settings → Security. Once enabled, every login requires both the password and the code from the app, which changes every 30 seconds. The admin panel mandatorily requires 2FA.

Question 37

Can I delete all my data from Verace?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You have the right to erasure of personal data under the GDPR (art. 17). You can request complete deletion of the account and all associated data by writing to supporto@verace.io. The deletion is final and includes products, media, supply chain steps and anonymized scan logs.

Question 38

Is Verace GDPR compliant?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Verace applies the privacy by design principle: we collect only the data necessary for the service, with explicit consent for non-essential cookies via a compliant banner. The infrastructure is entirely in the EU. Our full privacy policy is available at verace.io/privacy.
